Surf Sports

Surf Sport is about fun, competition, keeping fit as a key part of being able to perform well as a lifeguard in and around the surf.

Events

The main Surf Sport events are Paddle Board, Surf Ski, Swim, Canoe and Beach (sprints & flags). Within each category there are a number of both individual and team events that allow lifeguards to put their skills to the test.

East End offers a range of coaching and competitive opportunities across all disciplines with a head coach coordinating the whole program backed up a number of assistants who specialize in particular events.

When and Where?

The Surf Sport competition season kicks off each year with local club carnivals in November/December then moving onto regional events in January/ February and culminating in the National Championships in March.

Local competition carnivals are conducted between Taranaki clubs at East End, Fitzroy, Oakura and Opunake beaches throughout the season. Competition carnivals are competed for in under 16, under 19 and open age groups. There are some mixed gender events but generally each age group competes in separate male and female races.
