East End Surf Life Saving Club
Competition Squad (including Oceans Event)
The club has a competition squad for those that wish to complete more seriously. It is for the U14 to U11 age groups
It is open to all (as long as you make the commitment) Rookie and Cadets age groups and each year the club attends at the Oceans
Under 14 New Zealand Surf Life Saving Championships.
The event sees young athletes from all around New Zealand take part in a multitude of events that imitate a real-life rescue including board rescues, beach sprints, and swimming for kids aged 10 and older, who are split into Under-11, Under-12, Under-13 and Under-14 age categories.
It is held over 4 days in early March and involves around 800 competitors. It is to be held at Mount Maunganui (early accommodation booking is essential).
East End has an excellent, very comprehensive training program set up for athletes. The program requires commitment on the part of the athlete and covers swim, board and land-based events.
As the Water based training is more intensive to be part of water-based Ocean’s squad, you need to be able to complete the 200m Swim in 4 minutes. This requirement does not apply if you just wish to do the land event training.
