“In it for life” is a powerful catchphrase embraced by Surf Lifesaving New Zealand and its affiliated districts and clubs.
For many who join, this phrase rings true. What often begins as a journey in their teenage years — training as lifeguards and competing in surf sports — evolves into a lifelong commitment. Over time, members continue to contribute in meaningful ways, taking on roles as senior lifeguards, coaches, team managers, officials, and executive members at club, district, and national levels.
Surf lifesaving is more than a sport or a service; it becomes a way of life, fostering a deep connection to the movement and the community it serves.
Friendships formed through surf lifesaving often span years, decades, clubs, and even countries, creating connections that last a lifetime.
At East End Surf Lifesaving Club, we pride ourselves on fostering a fun, friendly, and inclusive environment. Our club offers opportunities for personal growth, fitness, competition, and recreation, all while being part of a supportive community.
Lifeguarding also provides the unique chance to make a real difference through a valuable community service, helping to keep our beaches safe for everyone.
We welcome members of all ages and interests, with options to suit everyone:
- Active Lifeguard (14 years and older)
- Surf Sports Competitor and Lifeguard
- Supporter Member
- Competition Official
- Junior Surf Member (7–14 years old) – learning beach safety, water confidence, competition, and, most importantly, having fun
Whether you’re a young beginner, a social member, or an experienced competitor aiming for success on the national stage, East End SLSC has a place for you. From the young to the young at heart, your journey with us is yours to shape.

Please do not do this if you are (or have ever been) a member of a Surf Lifesaving Club. If you do not know your number, note that when you join East End and we will look it up for you.
Completing this form will give you a SLSNZ registration number which is important when it comes to patrolling the beach and entering surf sport carnivals. Also your details will be on the national database so you will receive news and information from Surf Life Saving New Zealand.
If you want more general information about volunteer options and roles (its not just swimmers we need), we need help with maintenance, governance and a host of other jobs in our club please click on the ‘Information About Volunteer Options’ button.
